October 6, 2008 • Harper Bazaar Interview: Red, White and Drew

Drew Barrymore is sitting in her hotel room at the Holiday Inn Suites in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is in Michigan–has been for more than two months–filming her feature directorial debut, Whip It!, a roller-derby comedy starring Juno’s Ellen Page. Ann Arbor is quite the hot spot today. The town is buzzing because Barack Obama has checked into the local Marriott en route to a parade in Detroit. Change is in the air.

Flopping on the couch with a large Coke, Drew’s a little whipped herself, swiftly flicking off the Republican convention honking from the television. She is sporting a few roller-derby bruises, but what she is prouder to sport is a one-off Marc Jacobs T-shirt that reads, in bold Jacobsean font, TIME FOR A CHANGE.

Drew is known for many things: a 28-year film career, a storied and notorious past, and being the owner of one of the sunniest dispositions this side of the sun. But she has not pledged herself publicly to a political party. “It’s the first time I’ve really admitted I’m a Democrat,” she observes. A Democrat who supports Barack Obama: “His values,” she says, “are my values.” (Read More?)

October 6, 2008 • “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” Fetches Most Money at Box Office This Weekend

The Disney film “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” brought in roughly $29 million over the weekend to take first at the box office. The movie features conversing canines with a voice cast that includes Drew Barrymore, Cheech Marin, and Placido Domingo.Barrymore performs the voice of Chloe, a pampered pooch trying to fend for herself in Mexico. It was the largest opening for October that Disney has ever had. Not even any of the newcomers could take 2nd, which last week’s “Eagle Eye” occupied.

Taking the bottom spot at 10th was talk show host Bill Maher’s “Religulous” which took in $3.5 million. Another ideologically driven movie, David Zucker’s “An American Carol,” took 9th with $3.8 million.

October 5, 2008 • Drew on the cover of November Issue of Harper Bazaar

Drew Barrymore looks super cute and patriotic on the November cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Being single and free to make out with whichever Gossip guy she wants must really agree with her.

Inside, the actress-producer-director-U.N. Ambassador Against Hunger makes a shocking confession. Get this: Drew is…a Democrat who supports Obama. In Hollywood, who would have thought? However, she still encourages all young people to vote, no matter the candidate, natch.

But we’re more concerned with the packaging. Happy, carefree pictures like this come off as way more inspiring than the creepy Saw-like Jessica Alba Declare Yourself PSA. Smiles over Hannibal Lecter masks!

September 25, 2008 • Spotted: Drew Barrymore snogging Chuck Bass? Don’t tell B!

Drew Barrymore finally found a new man! Thank God. It’s been, like, weeks without one.

She and “Gossip Girl” hunk Ed Westwick were spotted (and photographed) in a “full-on make-out session” at Kings of Leon concert last night.

Westwick’s co-star Chace Crawford was also in the celeb area at Webster Hall, but contrary to some erroneous blog reports, he was not the Barrymore smoocher. To see the New York Daily Intel’s photographic proof of the slobbering hookup, click here!

Jeepers, Drew, leave the guy a tonsil, would ya? Rumor is her recently dumped beau, Justin Long, is still trying to grow his back. This girl goes through men the way whales go through plankton.

Post-concert, Barrymore, 33, and her younger man, Westwick, just 21, made a beeline for Bowery Electric to continue their very PDA, according to New York’s Daily Intel. And this is not the first that Drew and Ed have played tongue hockey.

They were also seen Saturday night at a “Saturday Night Live” after-party, which the Kings of Leon also played. “Chemistry was there!” a witness tells Us of the two.

That night they turned up at Fat Cat Billiards, where they stayed until 6 in the morning, shooting pool with “Gossip Girl’s” Crawford, “Juno” actress Ellen Page and “Into the Wild” star Emile Hirsch.

What do you think of this match? And how long do you give it? I say, max, two months.

And how long before Drew has a cameo on “Gossip Girl”?

September 18, 2008 • Drew Barrymore: ‘My Wildchild Days Are Behind Me’

Drew Barrymore says her wildchild days are now a thing of the past thanks to her ability to admit to her mistakes.

The Fever Pitch actress — who recently ended her relationship with actor Justin Long — says she now loves embracing her flaws, and is happy in life

She explains, “All I know is that if you’re just true to yourself and don’t pretend to be perfect and have as much fun as you can and believe in yourself, you can bet on yourself and say, ‘I can do this’ and believe in yourself. And everything works out.”

Drew, 33, endured a notoriously troubled childhood. She was already a regular at the famed Studio 54 when she was a little girl; smoking cigarettes at age nine; drinking alcohol by the time she was eleven; smoking marijuana at twelve; and snorting cocaine at thirteen. She was in rehab at age thirteen and a second time at fourteen.

Barrymore later described this period of her life in her 1990 autobiography, Little Girl Lost.

September 16, 2008 • Drew Barrymore books “How to Be Single”

The creative team behind the upcoming romantic comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You” is teaming up again for another laugh-infused romance.

New Line has picked up the rights to former writer “Sex and the City” writer Liz Tuccillo’s best-selling novel “How to Be Single” for Drew Barrymore’s production company.

The book follows the dating lives of five single New York women, one of whom, the narrator, is writing a book about how bachelorettes across the world manage. The woman embarks on a trip around the world for the book and gets involved in an international affair, while her four friends duke it out on the New York dating scene. The book was published in June. (Read More?)
